Actions: At 3:00 PM EST (2:00 PM CST), I continued a multi-day project of cleaning my kitchen. I also started documenting some of my actions and impressions for the Simultaneous Mass Existence project, for which I had brought my camera and spiral notebook to the kitchen. It turned out I really didn't need my spiral notebook.
At precisely 2:00 I was at my computer, taking note of what music was playing on my iTunes so I knew where the hour started. I then moved to the kitchen and turned my music player on so I could listen while I worked. Here's what I heard (taken from my last.fm Recently Played list later):
Marketts: Surfer's Stomp
Beck: Think I'm in Love
Sufjan Stevens: Alanson, Crooked River
T. Rex: Hang-Ups
Kim Fowley: The Trip
Deodato: Rio Strut
Shonen Knife: Watchin' Girl
The Ramones: Suzy is a Headbanger
Beck: The Horrible Fanfare/Landslide/Exoskeleton
The B-52s: Song for a Future Generation
Dave Davies: Nothing More to Lose
Peter Gabriel: Washing of the Water
Andrew Bird: Natural Disaster
The Breeders: We're Gonna Rise
Bjork: Midvikudags
Elliott Smith: High Times
Christopher O'Riley: Fly
Out of all those songs, the ones I sang along with were The Ramones "Suzy is a Headbanger," The B-52s "Song for a Future Generation (just the "Let's meet and have a baby now" part and the "La"s, and a little bit of Peter Gabriel's "Washing of the Water."
I spent some of that hour vacuuming dust and cobwebs from behind the stove and cleaning a basket storage thingie on wheels that had been next to the stove. The baskets were full of stuff, some of which I threw away and some of which I dusted and relocated.
I also started cleaning my refrigerator, beginning with the top and outside. As I was documenting the hour, I also took photographs of my refrigerator at each stage of my cleaning.
I began by removing everything from the top and outside of the refrigerator, from boxes of cereal to magnets and papers. Some of these I saw we no longer needed and threw away, others I kept.
I then wiped the top and outside of the refrigerator with Lysol Wipes, following this up with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I then replaced the magnets and papers in a way that pleased me and appeared less sloppy.
My primary olfactory impression was of Lysol from the wipes I was using.
My mind was busy, thinking about not only how best to accomplish my task but how to break it down for purposes of documentation.
I should add, the other thing I did during this time was to take pictures of the inside of my refrigerator (attached). I wasn't sure how far along I would get on the fridge during that hour, so I wanted the shots just in case.
Also, at the end of the hour I was looking at my clean refrigerator and feeling all smug and self-satisfied when I noticed the dirt at the bottom and realized I would need to clean that before I was done.
